— Southbound traffic on U.S. Highway 97 was slowed Tuesday afternoon by a truck that got stuck on a sandy turnout.

Witnesses said the southbound tractor-trailer had attempted to use a sandy pullout and adjacent road to turn around at about 12:10 p.m. Instead, the truck became stuck, with the Covenant Transport trailer blocking the southbound lane of the highway.

The Washington State Patrol responded to the scene to direct traffic while the truck was freed.

The highway was clear shortly after 4 p.m.
