Mount Rainier National Park raises fees

— Planning a trip to Mount Rainier National Park for Memorial Day weekend? Be ready to pay more.

Park Superintendent Randy King said said park entrance and camping fees increase Friday.

Park-goers will pay $20 per vehicle to enter the park beginning Friday; that cost will jump to $25 on May 27 next year.

A single campsite will cost $20 per night beginning Friday and the group site will jump to $60 per night. Those rates are not expected to increase next year.

King said the rate increases are necessary to help pay for $1 million in annual project costs.

Mount Rainier became the fifth national park in 1899 and was the first to charge a vehicle admittance fee to drive in the park.
