Grant County deputy injured in crash

— A Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured this afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in the south-central part of the county.

Deputy Allan Sleeper, 61, was headed to a 911 hang-up call in Mattawa around 1 p.m. on state Highway 262 when he came behind a pickup truck driven by Ronald A. Davis of Pasco, Sheriff's Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said.

Sleeper attempted to pass Davis on the left, just as Davis attempted to turn left into a driveway at 3961 state Highway 262, Foreman said. After the vehicles collided, Sleeper’s patrol car traveled into an apple orchard where it struck several trees.

Sleeper suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, Foreman said. Davis was not injured.

The patrol car was destroyed, the Washington State Patrol reported. Davis’ truck was towed from the scene.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash.
