New team takes over Carpenter Road Fire

Aircraft resume drops on blaze north of Wellpinit

— Fire officials in Stevens County have called in helitack and retardant bombers today to try to keep the Carpenter Road Fire from growing to the northeast.

Burning on the Spokane Indian Reservation, the fire has burned 65,346 acres and is about 45 percent contained.

The renewed use of aircraft comes as Rocky Mountain Incident Management Blue Team hands off command to Oregon Incident Management Type II Team No. 3.

The new team plans to post updates on the fire on its Facebook page. (click here)

Fire officials said the fire and drought-weakened trees remain a hazard along Springdale Hunters Road, which remains closed.
