OKANOGAN A local man driving a high-performance sports car possibly at a high rate of speed was killed early this morning in a one-vehicle crash.
Larry W. Burley, 53, of Okanogan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers, Burley was traveling southeast of Conconully Road when he lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle, a 1986 Porsche 911, left the roadway onto the north shoulder and "vaulted" into the hillside, at about 2:10 a.m., the sheriff said, noting the crash occurred near the Ironcap Road intersection.
"The accident is still under investigation, but investigators believe that speed was one of the contributing factors," Rogers said.
The initial report from the sheriff did not say if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The report did not include information on whether Burley was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
