OMAK OMAK – Omak Police Sergeant Jeff Koplin has been hired by Mayor Cindy Gagne to replace Chief Larry Schreckengast, who announced that he was retiring earlier this year.
The city council confirmed his appointment during their meeting on Monday night.
The city received six applications and interviewed four applicants for the position, according to Gagne.
Koplin begins working as police chief on July 1.
“I think he won the position,” Gagne said. “It was a matter of making the best fit for the department.”
Koplin, 38, has worked with the Omak Police Department since May 2004. Koplin moved up in Omak from officer to detective to patrol sergeant.
He originally started his career in law enforcement in Texas. Koplin grew up in Okanogan County, but moved to Texas after he was married.
We will have a more comprehensive story in our June 15 issue.
