An Okanogan County sheriff's deputy shot and killed an armed suspect in Omak around 5:15 a.m. July 16, said sheriff Frank Rogers.
He said the Chelan County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
The deputy, whose identity was not disclosed, responded to a rollover accident on Robinson Canyon Road near Omak, Rogers said. The driver apparently had fled the scene and officers were looking for him, according to the sheriff.
The vehicle ended up in an alfalfa field owned by Richard Sanborn.
"The driver was eventually spotted on Ironwood in the City of Omak," said Rogers. "The Okanogan County deputy began a foot chase with the suspect."
Omak Police and tribal police responded to the scene to assist, he said.
A foot chase went several blocks through yards until the suspect finally stopped in a yard in a residential area, Rogers said.
The deputy then fatally shot the armed suspect.
Omak Police chief Larry Schreckengast was not available for comment on the shooting on Jonathan Street.
"The Chelan County Sheriff's Office is en route to the scene to investigate the shooting," Rogers said. "At this time no other information is being released pending the outcome of the investigation."
None of the officers was injured.
Four other subjects who were involved in the vehicle accident were transported to Mid-Valley Hospital, Rogers said.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, he added.
