Grand Coulee teacher arrested in Okanogan County
Vernon E. Heizer, a teacher in the Grand Coulee Dam School District, was arrested the evening of July 16 on suspicion of second-degree rape of a child and other allegations, said Okanogan County sheriff Frank Rogers.
Heizer, 50, was arrested at his home on Columbia River Road near Nespelem.
Deputy Dennis Irwin and Sgt. Mike Worden contacted Heizer at this home and arrested him without incident, said the sheriff.
Heizer was taken to the Okanogan County jail and booked on suspicion of second-degree rape of a child, third-degree rape of a child, third-degree child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Rogers said his office's detectives have been working on the investigation for several months and continued to do so.
Heizer works as a middle school teacher in Grand Coulee. He also is a reserve officer with a municipal law enforcement agency in Grant County and previously was a reserve officer with the Grand Coulee Dam Police Department.
