Several organizations in the Curlew area have banded together to put on a benefit dinner and bingo night at the Curlew Civic Hall Jan. 21 for two women who lost their home in a fire Jan. 4 and also for a firefighter who was injured battling the blaze.
Dori Marsh and Jean Ward lost all their possessions in the fire, according to Civic Club president Bruce Wills. Marsh, an elderly woman, is now living in Klondike Hills assisted care facility in Republic.
Ward is currently bed-ridden in Danville with an extensive heart problem.
"The fire didn't do her any good," said Wills.
Firefighter Alan Drennan suffered a severed tendon in one arm. He had to have an operation to reattach the tendon, but is now doing well, according to Wills. Unfortunately, the surgery has put him out of work for eight weeks; Drennan owns and operates an automotive repair shop.
The benefit dinner, which includes spaghetti, salad, French bread and dessert, will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets for adults are $10 and children under 12 are $5.
Immediately after dinner, bingo will begin. They will play 20 games at 50 cents per game or $10 for the whole 20, according to Wills.
The Civic Hall is located downtown in Curlew.
