An effort is under way to raise money for kids' football teams from Okanogan and Omak in a Pop Warner Football League.
Chris Wood and Tony Block are spearheading a drive to raise $5,000 for the Okanogan team.
The one-time startup cost for the full-contact league will cover full pads, jerseys and equipment for the kids, who will play in either age 8-10 or 10-12 in the North Central Washington league, according to Carine Wood.
Cost each year thereafter would be about $500.
An Omak team also is trying to raise money, reports Carine Wood.
The league will include teams from Lake Roosevelt, Brewster and Tonasket.
To raise money, a live and silent auction is planned for Saturday, April 5, at Sun Valley Restaurant's banquet hall in Okanogan.
Silent auction will start at 6 p.m. A prime rib dinner will follow at 7 p.m.
There will be a D.J. and a dessert auction, too, said Wood.
Donations are being sought for the auction, said Wood, who can be reached 322-2108.
