Block named Okanogan boys’ varsity coach
Tony Block was named coach of the Okanogan High School boys’ varsity basketball team April 23 by the Okanogan School Board.
     He succeeds Jay Staggs.
Board member Rae Jean Kelley said the selection committee of seven, of which she was one member, pored over seven applications. Each committee member then chose three to interview; the selections were unanimous.
Committee members then interviewed their top three choices. Kelley said the process was "conducted fairly" and that "the decision was not easy."
All three candidates were given 11 questions ahead of time, then asked an impromptu question by all committee members.
In the end, the committee decided unanimously April 21 to recommend hiring Block, who previously served as an assistant coach under Staggs.
