OROVILLE - A 76-year-old man wanted by Colorado authorities for 12 years was arrested May 6 at the Oroville Port of Entry when he attempted to enter the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a Edward Glaze of Grand Junction, Colo., when a name check revealed he was subject of a National Criminal Information Center felony warrant.
NCIc is a centralized, automated database designed to allow law enforcement agencies to share data.
Glaze was wanted for assault on a child and soliciting for child prostitution.
"This apprehension is the 51st NCIC arrest in Washington state on the U.S.-Canadian border by (border) officers since Jan. 1," according to a Customs and Border Protection announcement. "These warrants are for a wide range of offenses and include money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual abuse of children, violation of protection orders, fraud, failure to appear, larceny and military desertion."
"Our officers' constant vigilance in securing our nation from the threat of terrorism is also responsible for these significant apprehensions thereby keeping our nation secure and making our communities safer," said Oroville area port director Ronald Arrigoni.
The outstanding warrant for arrest was verified with Mesa County Sheriff's Office before Glaze was turned over to the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office for extradition to Colorado.
As of May 9, Glaze remained in the Okanogan County jail.
He was arrested by the Grand Junction Police Department April 2, 1996, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
