Methow Valley School Board recently discussed damaged roof trusses at Liberty Bell High School and what can be done.
An engineer, Mel Hartwig, inspected the roof and was concerned about missing and damaged trusses, according to a report presented by board member John Sinclair.
He told the board that $45,000 remaining in a limited obligation bond and up to $200,000 from a non-competitive bid could be used to expedite emergency repairs of the damaged trusses. A tarp may be needed to protect the roof until a bond issue is passed to continue with repairs, he told the board.
Bond funds would not be available until 2010, but the district could borrow money against a successful vote in order to begin repairs in 2009, the board was told.
A letter has been sent to the insurance company requesting information on what portion of the damage is covered.
Superintendent Lou Gates added that insurance will pay for trusses and other parts destroyed by water damage. The district is waiting for a response from the insurance company.
