Department of Natural Resources crews expect to have the Rattlesnake Fire, located 10 miles southwest of Okanogan, contained by tomorrow night, July 3, at around 6 p.m., according to a fire incident report released July 2.
A type 3 incident management team, led by incident commander Greg Roberts, is overseeing firefighting operations.
The fire has burned 300 acres of grasses, but is only 5 percent contained, according to the report. Fire managers project that the fire will "somewhat likely" be contained to 850 acres. Firefighting costs are estimated at about $325,000.
Firefighters are tackling the fire on steep, rocky, inaccessible ground and are working to build a dozer line, burn out and hold the fire. Crews are securing perimeters of residences that could be threatened, according to the report.
One 20-person hand crew, two type 2 helicopters, five engines, three dozers and 10 overhead crews are working to control the fire.
Four homes and 10 outbuilding are threatened, but none has been damaged or destroyed, according to the report.
