At 5:30 p.m. July 1, Ty Olson received a call telling him his shop and office for his business, Mountainview Log and Timber Structures, was on fire. That evening, he lost everything in the building by a devastating fire, for which a cause remains unknown.
Olson said an investigation will look into the cause July 3. Already Olson has set up a temporary office in his yard in Tonasket.
The fire burned down the office and shop, destroying everything in its path, including 20 chainsaws, blueprints, client contacts and numerous tools.
Some of those tools were handcrafted over the last 30 years, and Olson said they will try to replicate them or locate them somewhere else. Some may be irreplaceable.
"We pretty much have nothing," Olson said, "but we'll put it back together."
In the meantime, excavation work and stick frame building continues for Ty Olson Construction. No heavy equipment or machinery was lost in the fire.
"Our commitment to our clients and doing good work continue," Olson said.
His team is working together to regenerate their vendor lists and get in touch with clients. Employees have pitched in to do extra work to keep things going, Olson said, expressing his thanks for their willingness to go above and beyond.
The community has already shown support in many ways, said Kathy Olson, Ty Olson's wife. The Tonasket Subway brought down free sandwiches, sodas and chips to all the employees as they worked on getting things together after the fire.
After having worked for years to build the business, watching it burn down can be pretty devastating, Ty Olson said.
But, he added, they are not giving up.
