Wind gusts up to 72 mph July 10 pushed the Cayuse fire to Highway 20 and total acres burned to an estimated 1,300 acres, according to Shannon O'Brien, a spokeswoman with the U.S. Forest Service.
Highway 20 was closed last night, but has since re-opened.
A dozer line has been established around much of the south, west and north edges of the fire, including existing roads. Crews will be working to bring the line around the east edge of the fire today, July 11, O'Brien said.
The forecast for today, July 11, calls for light calm winds with average temperatures and humidity, according to O'Brien.
Fire officials are considering a public meeting tomorrow night, July 12, to address concerns and provide information about the fire. No time or location has been set, according to O'Brien.
A type II incident management team, led by incident commander Dick Gormley, took command of the fire June 11.
