The Doyle Complex fire in Ferry and Stevens counties has destroyed two home in the Barstow area and was 15 percent contained as of Saturday morning, July 11, according to Bret Walker, information officer for the type III fire management team on scene.
A total of 292 people were working the fire, he said.
One of the destroyed homes also was used as a place of worship, he said.
The complex, which consists of three separate fires, was caused by the wind storm that blew through the area Thursday afternoon, July 10, he said.
Ferry County commissioner Mike Blankenship said the fire near his home started when a tree fell across an electric line. It then jumped Highway 395 and also jumped the river into Stevens County, he said.
The Doyle Creek fire is made up of a fire near the Kamloops Campground and Twin Bridges, another near the Whispering Pines Campground and the third in the Doyle Creek area near Barstow, officials said.
The homes known to have been burnt were in the Doyle Creek area, Walker said.
The complex is being handled by a type III management team because all type II teams were already assigned to other fires, Walker said.
