Fire activity has increased on the Camel’s Hump Fire in the War Creek drainage of the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, according to an announcement from the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests.
The fire, which began the night of July 22-23, is estimated to be about 50 acres as of July 24. It is burning through snags and down logs left behind from the 1994 War Creek Fire.
A dozen smokejumpers are assigned to the fire, along with a 20-person Hot Shot crew and an initial attack hand crew, according to the Forest Service announcement. Additional crews are being ordered.
Air support to the fire includes four helicopters and a single-engine air tanker.
