Man arrested on suspicion of breaking into post office
A 30-year-old Pateros man was arrested early Sept. 11 after allegedly breaking into the Omak post office.
The man was caught leaving the post office around 3:45 a.m. after Omak Police were tipped off by a tripped alarm, according to an announcement from the Omak Police Department.
Police chief Larry Schreckengast said his office was notified by the Okanogan County dispatch center of a possible intruder inside the building. Schreckengast said officer Michael Morrison and three deputies arrived within minutes of the initial call.
The intruder was detained as he tried to leave through an employee access door, Schreckengast said. Custom roll-up doors and three teller electronic cash boxes were damaged, he said.
Schreckengast said he expects a U.S. postal inspector to arrive early this afternoon. The inspector likely will handle the investigation since the federal government operates the building, said the chief.
