Chewelah man injured in cow-semi collision
A Chewelah man was injured Oct. 9 when the semi-truck he was driving struck a cow on Highway 20 eight miles west of Republic.
Wesley P. Patburg, 72, received a broken leg, and chest and hand contusions, according to the Washington State Patrol. He was taken by aid car to Ferry County Memorial Hospital, Republic.
Patburg was westbound on Highway 20 when the cow entered the road, according to the patrol report. He swerved to miss the animal but struck it anyway.
The semi-truck, which was pulling two trailers, went off the road’s right side, over a 20-foot embankment and through a barbed wire fence before coming to rest in a field, the report continued.
Patburg was wearing a restraint. The vehicle was destroyed.
