By Brenda Starkey
Chronicle correspondent

A shooting Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 22, in Ferry County has landed a suspect in Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane, under guard, according to the Ferry County Sheriff"s Department.
The hospitalized man is suspected of setting a residence on Art Creek Road on fire and then fleeing, the announcement continued.
The shooting involved two men from the Seattle area.
According to the sheriff's office, the suspect was apprehended by Ferry County detectives shortly after the fire began/ Detectives were assisted by the Washington State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol agents and air support, according to the announcement.
The suspect was transported to Ferry County Memorial Hospital, where the nature of injuries were not determined, then flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center where he is under Washington State Patrol guard, according to the sheriff's office.
A Washington State Patrol criminal investigative team is investigating the possible homicide on Art Creek Road south of Curlew, according to a Washington State Patrol spokesman.
Art Creek is located about five miles south of Curlew off Highway 21.
Details were sketchy as of Wednesday afternoon, but a suspect was in custody, according to trooper Mark Baker, a patrol spokesman.
The call came in at about 10:42 a.m. Ferry County sheriff Pete Warner requested a WSP criminal investigative team, Baker said.
There also was a house fire and possibly a stand-off situation, according to reports.
The Okanogan County special response team responded to assist Ferry County deputies with a report of an armed, barricaded suspect, said sheriff Frank Rogers.
Initial reports were that someone had been shot, Rogers said.
A witness in the area reported seeing Border Patrol agents with dogs and what she described as "sniper rifles."
There also were two helicopters on the scene, she said. One was circling and one had landed in a nearby hayfield.
Fourteen officers responded to the situation, Baker said.
