Tonasket High School graduate Sgt. Josh Evans and his wife, Specialist Kim Evans, will be the featured speakers during a Veterans Day assembly at the Tonasket school.
The Tonasket event runs from 8:45-9:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the school commons, and is one of several events planned during the next week at area schools.
Josh Evans recently returned from Iraq and Kim Evans will be in town on leave. Her tour is over in May 2009, according to an announcement from the school.
Community members are invited to attend the assembly, say school officials.
Additionally, the school is collecting information and pictures of Tonasket graduates who served or are serving in the military. The individuals will be honored during the ceremony.
Tonasket American Legion Auxiliary plans to honor veterans with a dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Tonasket Eagles. The ham and turkey dinner is open to the public.
Veterans will be served at no cost. The meal is $6 for adults and $2 for children 9 and under. An MIA/POW ceremony will be held during dinner, according to American Legion officials.
East Omak Elementary School will hold an assembly in recognition of veterans at 2 p.m. Nov. 10, according to counselor Lisa Pakrul.
She will show a slideshow of her trip to Washington, D.C., over the summer. A color guard presentation will be held and students will recite poems.
Additionally, principal Ted Pearson will lead students in the singing of "America the Beautiful," Pakrul said.
North Omak Elementary School will hold its Veterans Day assembly at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 10. Students will sing songs and learn about why Veterans Day is celebrated, according to spokeswoman Leslie Clough.
Veterans will be on hand and will be recognized, Clough said.
Okanogan schools held assemblies Nov. 7.
