TONASKET - Bull riding, a parade, sidewalk sales, free children's activities and more will make up Tonasket Founders' Days this weekend.
Friday night will see cowboys try to hang on as they ride bulls at the rodeo grounds, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The grounds open for concessions and ticket sales at 4 p.m., an announcement said.
Saturday is full of activities, beginning with the 11 a.m. parade down Whitcomb Avenue. Line-up is by 9:30 a.m., with judging at 10 a.m., coordinator Bertha Wandler said.
Entries can sign up until May 28 by calling Wandler, 486-4577 or 322-2473. The parade theme is "Land for All Seasons."
Girls on the Run, a program for elementary-age girls, will hold its annual run before the parade.
New this year is a demonstration by the Seattle Cossacks, a motorcycle trick-riding stunt team. The Cossacks will ride at the tail of the parade and then give a full performance to the crowd, Wandler said.
Tonasket Police Reserve Officer Jimmy Wright is a member of the Cossacks.
After the parade and Cossacks show, the streets will keep buzzing with sidewalk sales, dining specials and more.
Third Street will be closed for vendors from the parade's end until about 3 p.m.
At the Day Park near city hall, children's activities will keep with the "Land for All Seasons" theme. In honor of spring, children can hunt for eggs, get a free tree, plant seeds and do a cake walk.
For summer, the Range Riders 4-H Club will have an obstacle course and fishing pond. For fall, hildren can bob for apples, make scarecrow pictures and do more arts and crafts.
Winter-themed activities include eating cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate and snowboarding via a Wii system set up in the park. Organizer Julie Alley said the Wii will be set up with a TV that will be raffled later in the day.
Throughout the afternoon, various demonstrations will hit the Day Park. Al Risto Gun Safety group will give a presentation at 1:30 p.m., followed by Troupe Masarrah dancing.
Smokey Bear will visit the Day Park in the afternoon after riding in the parade, Alley said.
On Fourth Street, the Shine and Show Car Show will run from 1-2:30 p.m.
The Tonasket Library will have its book sale throughout the day.
Several restaurants will offer dining specials throughout Saturday. Other businesses will have sidewalk sales up and down the main streets of town.
The Rodeo Grounds will light up again for bronc riding at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
