Filing week wraps up; special filing period set
     OKANOGAN - Candidates signed up for many of the non-partisan positions up for election this year, but a special filing week is planned June 10-12 for positions that drew no hopefuls.
     Some positions drew two candidates and one, Tonasket mayor, attracted three.
     Councilwoman Joyce Fancher, former councilman Patrick D. Plumb and Eric D. Griffin are seeking the position being vacated by Patrick Walter. Fancher holds a safe council seat.
     An extended filing period of June 10-12 will be offered for offices that drew no candidates, plus the Okanogan School Board position held by Joe Mitschelen until his death May 22.
     Candidates who file during the three-day extended period will go directly to the general election, regardless of how many people file, Okanogan County Elections Deputy Mila Jury said.
     Positions included in the special filing period are (with the incumbent listed):
     Town of Coulee Dam - Council position No. 2, Steve Chapman, four-year term, $10 filing fee.
     Town of Conconully - Council position No. 5, Jim LeMaster, two-year unexpired term.
     Town of Nespelem - Council position No. 1, vacant, short and four-year term.
     City of Okanogan - Council position No. 1, Joan Pfeiffer, two-year unexpired term, $12 filing fee. Council position No. 2, Tracey Nicholas Orr, four-year term, $12 filing fee. Council position No. 3, Synthia Edwards (resigned), short and four-year term, $12.
     City of Tonasket - Council position No. 1, Jean E Ramsey, four-year term.
     Omak School Board - Position No. 1 (at large), Wendell George, four-year term.
     Okanogan School Board - Position No. 5, vacant, two-year unexpired term.
     Brewster School Board - Position No. 5 (at large), Edith E. Sattler, four-year term.
     Pateros School Board - Position No. 3, Patti Luchte, four-year term. Position No. 4 (at large), Jerry Evans, four-year term.
     Methow Valley School Board - William A. Boosman, four-year term.
     Oroville School Board - Position No. 2, Verle O. Rowton, four-year term. Position No. 4, Jerry L. Nelson, four-year term.
     Coulee Area Park and Recreation District - Position No. 1, Phil Hansen, two-year unexpired term. Position No. 2, Susan Chaffee, two-year unexpired term.
