OMAK - Okanogan County Transportation and Nutrition will see heavy reductions in its door-to-door services throughout the county starting July 1 because of funding cutbacks.
The state Department of Transportation cut its funding to the services by $153,190 for the July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2011, biennium. The budget for the program was $612,760, an OCTN announcement said.
DOT received 144 requests for funding projects and funded 109 of them, many at a reduced level, the announcement said.
Dramatic cuts to service hours will begin July 1 across the county, the announcement said. The exact schedule will be released then.
Other OCTN services were not so dramatically affected because of funding partnerships throughout the county, Director Leanne Leifer said.
The door-to-door service is designed to help seniors, low-income people and the disabled, and the general public, the announcement said.
OCTN is searching for additional funding sources. Anyone able to donate can contact OCTN at 826-4391.
