TONASKET - A slide show about the Amazon River and its tributaries will be given Saturday, June 27, at the Community Cultural Center, Tonasket.
The event begins with a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by a “traditional jungle dinner” of banana and fish soup, chicken with peanut soup, salad and bread at 7, said organizer Starr Cross.
The cost is $10 for the full dinner or $6 for salad and bread only.
The slide show and poetry start at 8 p.m.
“Slides of monkeys and other jungle animals, fish, fruits and flora of the jungle will show the richness of this Peruvian jungle area and her people,” Cross said.
The lifestyle and use of medicinal plants and plants will be discussed.
Cross, a registered nurse, has gone to Peru for the past two years.
“It is an honor for me to be there, as caring for the rain forest is crucial, as its water and oxygen benefits the whole earth,” Cross said.
Proceeds go toward the jungle people.
Auction items include artwork, jewelry, items from her personal collection and travels, and a six-day jungle expedition, excluding air fare.
