OLYMPIA – The state has imposed outdoor burning restrictions in northeast Washington, including Okanogan and Ferry counties.
The state Department of Natural Resources said fire danger ratings have increased, resulting in burn restrictions. Additional restrictions have been placed on some industrial operations on forest land.
The changes were effective at midnight June 30.
In Okanogan, Spokane, Lincoln and Pend Oreille counties and Fire District Nos. 1 and 2 in Stevens County, the fire danger rating increased to high. All burning is prohibited, and campfires are allowed only in approved campfire rings.
In Ferry County and Stevens County outside of Fire District Nos. 1 and 2, the fire danger rating increased to moderate, with no restrictions placed on rule burning or campfires.
People can check fire restrictions, including industrial fire precaution levels, by calling 800-323-BURN (2876) or visiting http://fortress.wa.gov/dnr/firedanger.
