BRIDGEPORT - The victim of a drowning in the Columbia River at Bridgeport has been identified as Samuel Guzman-Montalvo, 18, Bridgeport.
Guzman-Montalvo was reported missing at about 7 p.m. July 3. He had been swimming with friends at the Bridgeport Marina lagoon, Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said.
Witnesses said Guzman-Montalvo had been sitting on a rock by the water when the group began to leave. His friends turned away briefly and when they looked back, he was gone.
Deputies search the area in a patrol boat and on foot along the beach, but could not find him.
Shortly after 6 a.m. July 4, the sheriff’s office was notified that a body had been found in the water at the marina lagoon. Family members were notified.
“I would like to remind everyone to use caution when swimming, boating or engaging in any water recreation,” Gjesdal said. “Always have a partner or wear a personal floatation device.”
More information is available from a marine law enforcement deputy, 686-3741.
