WENATCHEE - Most of the fires caused by lightning in recent days are now under control.
Firefighters responded to four new fires in the Tonasket Ranger District yesterday. One was in the Cornel Butte area, one near Lyman Lake and two near Sneed Mountain, a Forest Service announcement said.
Each was less than one-tenth of an acre.
Fires in the Methow Valley Ranger District have mostly stayed small as well, with the largest reaching 18 acres yesterday in South Benson.
Management for three other small fires in the area has been combined with the Shull Ridge Fire, which is about 211 acres 22 miles northwest of Mazama.
The remaining fire in Shull Ridge is being monitored and should burn itself out due to natural barriers, the announcement said.
Firefighters from Tonasket Ranger District have also joined the State Department of Natural Resources to suppress a 100-acre fire on Mineral Hill near Conconully.
