REPUBLIC - Second annual candlelight vigils to honor victims of domestic violence are planned for Inchelium, Republic and Keller.
The events, part of Connections' domestic violence month observation, will include a reading of statistics and lighting of candles.
Participants may dedicate candles to domestic violence victims living or dead, Connections Director Kate Rowe-Maloret said.
The candlelight vigil is a respectful way to bring domestic violence to the attention of the community, she said.
White candles in purple cups are symbolic, since purple is the color associated with those who have died and white is a color associated with the living, she said.
The Inchelium vigil will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, with another in Republic at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, and one in Keller from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.
In Republic, participants will meet at Patterson Park and walk through town with their candles lit. Hot chocolate and other warm beverages will be available at the park following the vigil, Rowe-Maloret said.
Chili and fry bread will be served after the Inchelium and Keller events, she said.
No one has to speak at the event unless he or she wants to say something, she said.
