WINTHROP – A 25-year-old man died early Dec. 6 when his vehicle hit a tree and burned on Rendezvous Road north of town.
Dead is James R. Smith, Twisp.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the vehicle fire about 4 a.m.
Sheriff Frank Rogers said his office and emergency services found the vehicle fully engulfed. After the fire was out, they discovered the driver was still inside.
Rogers said the vehicle had been eastbound when it went off the road and hit the tree. Smith apparently had been at a friend’s home an hour before the crash.
