BREWSTER – An Okanogan school bus received an estimated $10,000 worth of damage in a crash with a car about 3:20 p.m. Dec. 15 near Brewster.
The car’s driver Yamilly L. Asencio-Padilla, 20, Bridgeport, received a hip injury, the Washington State Patrol said.
Taylor Kramer, a student on the bus, received a bloody nose, Superintendent Richard Johnson said. Her parents were notified.
The bus, loaded with high school girls’ basketball players, was en route to a game in Cashmere. Johnson said the girls and their coaches wanted to play the game, so they boarded a second bus, which had been behind the first, and continued on.
Randy’s Towing, Okanogan, was call to retrieve the damaged bus.
The Washington State Patrol said Asencio-Padilla was northbound on snowy U.S. Highway 97 about three miles north of Brewster when her car collided in the southbound lane with the southbound bus, driven by Donald L. Duncan, 52, Okanogan.
The car was destroyed.
Asencio-Padilla was taken to Okanogan-Douglas District Hospital by ambulance.
