OMAK – Third quarter classes begin Feb. 1 in the high school’s Xtreme Challenge After School Program.
Classes run from 3-5 p.m. every school day.
Classes are:
“Xtreme Movies and Film Making” with Jack Schneider - The class will explore films and film-making techniques, and will then use what they learn to write and film a movie at Omak High School.
“Weight Lifting and Nutrition” with Tony Boyd - Students will make fitness goals, work on cardiovascular endurance, do weight training and learn about nutrition.
“Xtreme Silk Painting for Beginners” with Megan Nansen - Students will learn the techniques and tricks needed to create silk art such as wall hangings and scarves.
“Beginning Guitar Lessons” with Don Kincaid - The class will work on learning guitar chords and simple songs. This course is meant for beginners or more advanced players wanting more practice.
“Xtreme Boat Building” with Eric Simmons – Students will build a racing canoe and will take it on field trips to Omak Lake and Anacortes this spring.
“On-site Organic Gardening” - Theclass will travel to an organic garden on Tuesdays and Thursdays and learn a variety of organic farming techniques.
“Exploring Historic Photographic Techniques and Tricks” with Emily Abrahamson - Students will explore historic photographs and learn about the techniques and tricks that were used by famous photographers.
This group will mainly focus on Native American photographs and portraits.
“Xtreme Yoga ” – Class members will learn how to practice yoga effectively by learning proper technique and safety.
“Xtreme Adventures in Aerospace and Rocketry” with Laura Catlett – Students will explore several aspects of aerospace and space technology through hands-on activities and videos. They will build their own rocket and participate in a launch.
All courses are free. Parents can attend courses with their children.
All students registered in the program also receive a free snack and tutoring from 3-3:45 p.m. daily. Bus transportation is provided, except for Conconully and Disautel routes.
