YAKIMA – Pateros basketball teams each placed at the state 1B tournament that concluded with trophy rounds Feb. 27 at the SunDome.
     The boys won 43-40 over Lake Quinault to finish fifth in state for the school’s first-ever boys 1B state trophy.
     The girls reached the state semi-finals Friday before falling 48-28 to Almira/Coulee-Hartline. The girls then dropped a 67-42 decision to Columbia (Hunters) to finish sixth in state.

     At the 1A regional tournament Saturday at Moses Lake High School, Chelan boys easily won the championship 70-56 behind the 36 points of Joe Harris.
     In the girls title game, Freeman used a smothering zone defense to stymie a young Okanogan squad 50-39.
     The Bulldogs outscored Freeman 10-2 in the final couple minutes to cut a margin that was as much as 21 points.
     State will be March 3-6 at the Yakima SunDome.

     In the 2B state qualifying tournament at Wenatchee High School, Liberty Bell punched its ticket to state with a resounding 57-41 win over Kittitas.
     The Mountains will be seeded No. 2 to state, which will be held March 3-6 at the Spokane Arena.
     Entiat earned the No. 1 seed with a 53-47 win over Liberty Bell on Thursday, Feb. 25.
     In first round games, Entiat won 62-35 over Kittitas and Liberty Bell knocked off Oroville 47-29.
     In a loser-out game, Kittitas won 43-23 Feb. 25 to set up the show down with the Mountain Lions.
     In boys play, Soap Lake won 61-38 over Manson on Saturday night for the No. 2 seed to state.
     Entiat holds the No. 1 seed after a 39-31 win over Manson on Feb. 25.
     In the first round of District 6 play, Manson won 48-43 over Oroville while Entiat won 50-40 over Soap Lake.
     In a loser out game Feb. 25, Soap Lake won 45-40 over Oroville to set up the game with Manson.
