SPOKANE – The Liberty Bell girls will face a team coming off a stunning come-from-behind victory tonight in the second round of state 2B basketball action in the Spokane Arena.
Liberty Bell downed Asotin, 62-52, in the final game of the tournament’s opening round. The Mountain Lions now face Toutle Lake at 9 p.m. today.
Toutle Lake upset Tacoma Baptist in the opening round in a stunning come-from-behind victory.
Down 18-1 in the first quarter, Toutle Lake bounced back to take the lead with 4:35 left in the game and hold on for a 46-40 win.
The opening game for the Mountain Lions was a matchup between Shelbys.
Considered two of the best girls 2B players in the state, Asotin’s Shelby Barnes wracked up 22 points, while Liberty Bell’s Shelby Scott put up 11.
Barnes put the Mountain Lions on the board seconds into the game and her teammates grabbed an errant pass but couldn’t put any more points on the board.
After that, it was all Liberty Bell as the Mountain Lions sank two shots for the lead, and held it the rest of the game.
Game statistics show the teams were fairly evenly matched.
Liberty Bell went 6-for-14 on field goals while Asotin went 5-for-13, and the teams were nearly equal on rebounds.
The largest lead in the game was a 14-point spread late in the fourth quarter.
