Brewster boy's arraignment on attempted murder charge is postponed
By Al Camp
The Chronicle

OKANOGAN - A 17-year-old Brewster boy charged as an adult with attempted first-degree, pre-meditated murder appeared briefly in Superior Court Thursday afternoon, March 4.
Charles Thomas Mustoe was granted a week continuance at the request of his attorney, Michael Haas.
Mustoe allegedly conspired to kill students at Chelan High School, a probable cause statement filed March 3 said. The attack allegedly was planned for April 20, 2011, more than a year away so that he could better plan the attack, according to the filing.
Mustoe and a 14-year-old Port Alberni, B.C., girl, who allegedly was going to accompany him, were going to commit the spree on the anniversary of the killing of 12 students and a teacher by two students in 1999 at Colorado's Columbine High School, court records said.
Prosecutor Jennifer Richardson told Court Commissioner Chris Culp that the state charged Mustoe as an adult. She agreed to wait a week to arraign Mustoe, who would officially hear the charge and could enter a plea at that time.
He remains incarcerated in juvenile detention. If he is found guilty before his 18th birthday in December, he would serve his time in an adult facility.
Mustoe allegedly used e-mails and online chats posted at Facebook, initially talking of music but turning to suicide.
That allegedly led Mustoe to suggest taking out others, similar to the Columbine incident.
Court filings said the 5-10, 155-pound Mustoe wanted to commit the crime as revenge for those who pushed him around. In a statement to Brewster police, Mustoe alleged he was still upset with eight boys who wanted to beat him up a year or more ago.
Mustoe allegedly first thought of committing the crime at Brewster High School but decided against it because he had many friends at the school, according to court records.
Mustoe allegedly gave a recorded statement Feb. 27 to Brewster Officer Marcus Ruiz, who said he learned of the alleged plot that morning.
Ruiz allegedly asked Mustoe about the many weapons he allegedly said he would use, court records said.
Mustoe allegedly said it was true he had access to some of the weapons, but that he lied about his friend having a Mauser and Mustoe having a TEC-9, court records said.
On the afternoon of Feb. 27, Ruiz went to the Mustoe residence and removed three shotguns, five rifles and two pistols.
