OROVILLE - A peace celebration is planned at 4 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the international border crossing.
Everyone is invited to sing dance, eat and spread peace, joy and love at the border crossing between Oroville and Osoyoos, B.C., organizers say.
The event is part of numerous Women for Women events around the world.
Women for Women International provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies, according to the Women for Women International Web site.
It will not be necessary to cross the border to participate, organizers said.
Women from all over the world will celebrate International Women's Day with the global campaign called "Join me on the Bridge," according to the Web site.
Thousands of women and men worldwide will gather on bridges from San Francisco to Congo to demonstrate that women can build the bridges of peace and hope.
The local event is one of two planned for Washington, with the other at the Women's Club in Spokane on Sunday, March 7.
