OMAK – People can learn about growing their own food in free gardening workshop series in Nespelem and Omak.
The Washington State University Extension program will be taught by Okanogan County Master Gardeners.
Programs at the Nespelem Community Center, 5 Nespelem School Loop Road, are “Seed Starting,” March 16; “Grow Your Own Groceries,” April 13; and “Food in a Tub,” May 4.
“Composting,” on June 8, will be at the tribal food distribution office on the agency campus.
Programs at the Omak Community Center, 511 Benton St., run from March 18 to June 10. The same topics will be offered, in the same order, as in Nespelem.
All programs run from 3-5 p.m.
Participants will learn hands-on techniques for starting seeds at home, planting and maintaining a vegetable garden, planting vegetables in large pots and tubs, and building and using a compost bin to improve garden soil.
