OMAK – The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a winter weather advisory for Okanogan, Ferry and Chelan counties.
The advisory, issued at 3:35 a.m. Thursday, March 11, calls for a “moist Pacific storm” that will end the recent run of dry weather.
Weather officials say the storm will bring “moderate accumulations of snow to the mountains and valleys” Thursday that will linger into Friday morning.
The winter weather advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. today above 1,500 feet for snow accumulations of one to three inches. Snow is expected this morning, with precipitation changing to rain this afternoon.
Republic, Inchelium, Wauconda, Chesaw, Wauconda Summit, Boulder Creek Road and Sherman Pass will be most affected, the National Weather Service said. Travelers can expect slippery conditions and limited visibility on roads.
Winds will be from the south at 5-15 mph.
Highs in the Okanogan Valley are expected near 38 degrees today. By tonight the low will be around 35 degrees with a 90 percent chance of precipitation.
Temperatures and the snow level will rise on Friday, the weather service said. Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 47.
