REPUBLIC - John Clifford was found not guilty of vehicular homicide in the death of Arthur M. Voges in an Oct. 2, 2009, crash south of Curlew.
A jury of four men and eight women found Clifford, 66, Malo, guilty of the lesser charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The trial stretched into a second week and included testimony by Washington State Patrol troopers who investigated the crash and testimony from Clifford.
Clifford was returning to Curlew from Republic at about 9:20 p.m. when his SUV collided with a car driven by Voges at milepost 179 on state Highway 21, the jury heard.
Clifford testified that the other car was in his lane, and that there was no place for him to go because there was an upward embankment on his side of the road.
Voges died at the scene. His wife, Linda, 62, was hospitalized.
