Both Omak and Okanogan students are taking the reading/writing High School Proficiency Exam this week.
The HSPE takes the place of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning, so those who have already passed the 10th grade WASL will not have to retake the test.
HSPE is shorter than the WASL, and over the next couple years will be moved online. Like the WASL, passing this test is a graduation requirement.
Students in the 2010-2012 classes must pass reading and writing, either WASL or HSPE, but beginning with the class of 2013 the students must pass the reading, writing, math and science exams. More information is available at www.k12.wa.us/assessment/StateTesting/HSPE.aspx.
Omak Key Club members are having a road cleanup on Friday, March 19.
From March 22-26, students from Denmark will be visiting Omak and attending school with host students.
February students of the month for Omak are Janet Torres-Garcia and Amandeep Singh.
Several Okanogan and Omak students will be attending the Future Business Leaders of America state conference April 8-10 in Yakima.
