OKANOGAN – The state has imposed a ban on campfires at Leader Lake Campground off state Highway 20 west of Okanogan.
The ban went into effect at 12:01 today, Aug. 18, and is because of hot and dry conditions, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.
Other state campgrounds may ban campfires on a case-by-case basis, so visitors should check with the campground host before lighting a campfire.
In an effort to reduce human-caused wildfires, DNR issued a statewide burn ban on all DNR-protected lands through Sept. 30. The ban includes all forest lands in Washington except for federal lands.
