WINTHROP – The 12th annual North Cascades Oldtime Fiddlers Contest will be Saturday, Aug. 28.
The event begins at 9 a.m. in the Winthrop Park band shell on state Highway 20.
The contest is expected to draw fiddlers and acoustic musicians from all over the Northwest and beyond, organizers said.
Competitors will vie for cash prizes and trophies donated by local merchants and individuals.
Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Shaded seating for seniors will be available.
Divisions include peewee, 11 and younger; senior, 60 and older; junior, 12-17, and open.
An accompanist division is offered for the guitar player who backs up the most contestants. A miscellaneous instrument division for banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, bass, accordion, tuba, banjo sexto, and so on, will be offered.
Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for seniors and free for children 12 and younger.
Competitor registration starts at 8 a.m. and costs $10. Accompanists will compete for free.
The North Cascades Giant Insect Contest, for children 12 and younger, is planned at noon. Entry is free and all entrants will get a prize, organizers said.
