PATEROS – Hydroplane racing returns to Lake Pateros Aug. 28-29 with the annual Terry Troxell Memorial Regatta.
The races start at 11 a.m. and are free to the public.
The next stop on the American Power Boat Association’s tour will include Grand Prix West hydros that reach speeds up to 160 mph, vintage racer Jon Courtright said.
“Grand Prix Hydroplanes feature big block 468 cubic inch supercharged 1,100 horsepower power plants that run on methanol and throw rooster tails 50 feet into the air,” Courtright said.
Other classes will include 1 litre, 2.5 litre stock, 2.5 litre modified, 5 litre and national modifieds.
There will also be vintage hydros taking a spin around the course with boats featuring mahogany decks and open cockpits.
Unlimited drivers, who competed at Seattle’s Seafair two weeks ago, include Mark Evans, Greg Hopp, Kip Brown, Brian Perkins, Jon Zimmerman and Jeff Bernard.
