OMAK - Hazy skies over Okanogan County May 30-32 were the result of wildfires in Alberta.
"We haven't burned anything since April 22 because of the wet spring we’re experiencing," Methow Valley Ranger District spokeswoman Megan Trebon said. "In addition, we have a district policy to not burn from the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend through the end of this busy holiday."
The weekend smoke came from heavy, uncontained fire activity in the Slave Lake area and Fort Murray.
As of June 2, the province had 38 fires that had burned more than 464,000 hectares (about 1.14 million acres).
Slave Lake's 7,000 residents were evacuated from the fire there that destroyed more than 400 homes and businesses.
