DANVILLE - The U.S. Border Patrol has seized 18 pounds of Ecstasy and $14,000 in U.S. currency near the Canadian border.
The drugs, packaged in powder form, are worth about $135,000, Customs and Border Protection said.
Border Patrol agents found the drugs and cash in a backpack Jan. 16 west of the Danville Port of Entry in Ferry County.
"This is yet another example of our agents' highly skilled ability to track and interdict people and narcotics traversing our international border," Spokane Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez said.
The seizure was the second of its kind in six weeks. On Dec. 4, 2011, the Border Patrol seized 100 pounds of methamphetamine and $20,000 in cash west of the Danville Port of Entry.
Customs and Border Protection said the meth, valued at $755,250, and cash were found in three backpacks and a duffel bag in an open field.
In both cases, the drugs and cash were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
No arrests have been made.
