OKANOGAN – Okanogan High School cheerleaders recently attended a camp in Ellensburg and received several awards.
The camp at Central Washington University drew more than 500 cheerleaders, representing 41 schools statewide.
“I am very proud of how these young people represented our school and community,” cheerleading coach Trisha Bradley said. “They truly put the leader in cheerleader.”
The squad took home five excellent-rating National Cheer Association ribbons, two superiors and one outstanding for daily cheers and chants, plus two leadership ribbons, a leadership pin, four spirit sticks, a technical skills award for motions and an award for best use of props.
Casey Steveson and Andreu Thorp received Pin-it-Forward awards, as did Bradley. She was the only coach honored.
All-American nominees are seniors Josie Heindselman and Thorp, juniors Alyssa Richards, Steveson and Lacey Howell, and sophomore Hannah Attridge. Thorp and Richards also were nominated last year.
They will perform at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Cheer Championships in January.
Others on the fall cheerleading squad are Laura Brown, Mahalia Surgeon, Meghan Foth, Ana Baum and Katie Hedington.
