OMAK – The School Board hired several teachers during its July 24 meeting, including some for its online program.
Hired were Rolland Hansen and Wendy Stubenrach, high school special education; Larissa Hansen, middle school social studies; Robert Dunn, middle school computer technician and math teacher; Billy Ridenour, middle school special education, and Alexis Painter, music and Title I for East Omak Elementary School.
Washington Virtual Academy online program hires are Will Harper, Laura Corkern, Namoe Lynes, Stacey Reed, Joy Roth, Linda Tyo and John Winslow. All will work remotely with students enrolled in the program.
Omak picked up a number of online students when Steilacoom Historical School District dropped its affiliation with K12, the company that operates the WAVA program, Superintendent Art Himmler said. He previously worked for Steilacoom.
Omak expects to enroll about 3,800 online students this school year, with WAVA getting the bulk of state funding for them. The district gets 3 percent of the funding.
John Rogers was hired for grounds maintenance.
The board also accepted the resignation of East para-professional Lynn Lentz.
Still to be filled are first- and second-grade teaching posts at North Omak Elementary School, summer school high school English teacher, middle school para-educator/tutor, East food service helper, high school assistant basketball coaches, middle school football coach, and several WAVA posts.
