OKANOGAN - Police are scouring the Omak-Okanogan area in search of a jail trusty who escaped from a work crew at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds around 11 a.m. today, Aug. 28.
The man, whose name has not been released, is black and about 18 years old, the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office said.
He apparently headed north from the fairgrounds, 175 Rodeo Trail Road, and shed his black-and-white striped jail shirt along the way.
He may be wearing his pants or black shorts. The escapee may have crossed the railroad tracks toward the Okanogan River.
A Sheriff's Office K-9 unit was brought in to track the man, but became overheated and was pulled from the search. The U.S. Border Patrol was called to bring its K-9 unit, too.
Also assisting in the search are the Omak Police Department and Colville Tribal Police.
