CHELAN – A 44-year-old Illinois man died when his semi-truck and trailer slid down a steep 60-foot embankment Sept. 4 on McNeil Canyon Road.
The driver, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was westbound about two miles up the canyon around 1:51 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff Don Culp said.
His 2009 Kenworth tractor pulling trailer loaded with bagged calcium fertilizer was coming down the hill into a right curve when it tipped over, broke through a guard rail and plunged down the hillside.
The driver was found deceased inside the truck’s cab.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office accident specialist and Washingt0n State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer were at the scene later in the morning to investigate.
